My heart is still pittering and pattering.
We were randomly watching "House Hunters on Vacation" about 12 weeks ago or so. It's a show on HGTV that takes families to a lovely destination, they go through 3 rental properties and choose which one they want to stay at for the week. Hannah decided she wanted to apply to the show. I was like "hmmm-aaahh, reeaally?" She insisted on pulling up the application online and started filling it out. I jumped in last minute and finished it. Thinking nothing of it, really. They requested a family picture, so we quickly found one. Thousands of others were doing the same application, right?
No chance.
So yesterday I was checking my voicemail. A call from Northern California area? Huh? Well...it was a producer for the show and they were interested in us for casting/filming and telling me all about the show. (!!!!!!!)
At this point I (really all of us) freaked a bit.
We had to make an audition tape last night to have the executives of the show review it along with some other families. I was like..."uh, how many other families...a hundred?" Apparently not. The producer said that it looked pretty good for us. S-e-r-i-o-u-s-l-y?
Freaking again.
What was it that they saw in our application that the others didn't have? It was this fun picture above that made us stand apart the producer said. (We took that a couple years ago for the holiday's.)
So with the help of my brother and Mom, we frantically and nervously made a 10 minute creative video and answered the ten questions they wanted us to. Uploaded it to the producer this morning.
Now we wait until Monday to hear and keeping our fingers and toes crossed!
If we get chosen then the show will come to our place on Feb.18th to interview us with the crew. The location in not known but it is being promoted by Pixar/Disney and will be out of the country. If we are the family they have been looking for, then the show will tape us for 3 days going through properties and then get to have a dreamy vacation on them from February 26th to March 14th.
uuuh,....CANNOT believe it!
We are keeping our hopes up and will keep all posted!

i googled "we might be going on house hunters on vacation" to see if i could find anyone else out there who may be going... we are not hearing until monday, we've been told... i'm curious, though, as the dates they have told us differ... ours would be the home visit on the 11 or 12th and the vacation from the 19th through the 6th... how wild?! is it possible there is more than one vacation they are casting for? ours was said to be a week in the states and a week out of country and yes, related to disney/pixar. good luck to you guys- i know i'm freaking out over here! your picture is awesome, btw. really awesome!
We are in the same boat, too! Our dates that we were told were, home visit Feb. 19th and travel Feb. 26-13th.
It's exciting just to be considered for this incredible vacation experience!
so it turns out the dates have been moved from when they originally told us. we were originally called on jan. 3 within a day or two... soooo- lol. we've been on pins and needles for a long time! anyway- best wishes to all!!!
Omygoodness, I can't believe you found me on here and that we all are being patient together! Yes, those are the dates that were given to us. Who knows what kind of family they are looking for... it has been exciting to participate, nonetheless. I guess we'll all hear on Monday:) Best to you as well...
:) agreed! and honestly, it kind of helps to know we aren't the only ones suffering through the waiting process! i wish we had all been chatting sooner. i've had so many conversations with my hubby and friends that they are likely very tired of it now! :) wondering where the destinations are and if it's related to the new movie, "the brave", etc.
i wonder about what kind of family they're looking for, too!! obviously, personality is HUGE... but i wonder about interests, appearances, etc... man! i also have wondered if the answers we give really bear on their choice? okay, enough babbling. i'm probably the only one who would sit and chat about this for hours... (secretly i hope i'm not the only one, lol, because i'm feeling a little obsessed, hahaha!)
oh- one last thing- have you been working with carrie? isn't she the nicest, sweetest person?! i can't get over how patient she has been. like i said, i've been bugging her with questions and videos since early january, lol. she's been a saint putting up with me!!

Funny, I too, feel like I could babble on and on about it and I am sure I have annoyed my friends and husband!
Carrie is very sweet and I am sure she would love to make everyone's dreams come true if she could.
Hopefully they will be able to make a decision by Monday as I am sure there are many plans that need to be arranged.
We will have to check in with each other tomorrow.

agreed again! i started wondering this evening how it will feel not to be selected...but on the other hand, i really don't want to think of anyone else having to face that feeling, either. sorry, i know that isn't realistic... i'm just that head-in-the-clouds kind of girl, i guess. anyway- ttyt, ladies! p.s. my name is virginia. :) if you're interested, we posted our audition video to youtube. it isn't the one they ultimately will be making the decision upon, but... it was our first attempt on the first day we found out. :) it's bailey family video audition HHV, i think...

hahahaha, we commented nearly simultaneously! thanks, stacey on the video. we did ours SO many times. that was the first day and then we re-did it later in our trip because it was definitely hard to hear and see at times... and then, last week, she said on monday there were about 40 videos going before the execs and that 3 of them needed to be re-done. i still don't know if that was because we had made it past that round or if it was because ours sucked, lol!!! sooo- we re-did it. a friend of mine, while holding her 4 month old baby taped us. it was shaky and our youngest's head was cut out of a lot. argh. so then we wound up doing another one from my husband's job in his breakroom! can you say nerves shot!? hahaha. my girls have been real troopers, though. i can say that. it's been a fun experience working on it together as a team, even when it was challenging.
so, stacey, did you leave a vm for carrie? gosh, this is insane! lol. do you use google chat?

We did our video in one shot and of course I have thought of a million things we could have done to make it better! Hindsight! :/
Can you imagine how nerve racking it must be for Carrie and all of the logistical planning that has to take place to pull this off?
My stomach was full of butterflies all day!
Isn't it kind of like buying a lottery ticket and dreaming about it all night until you check your #'s in the morning? Not that I am a player by any means!

I talked to Carrie today. Yay! She said that the videos are now being reviewed by the network and hopefully tomorrow they will have a decision. (whew!) She said there are about 40 in review and there are some great one's. (Including ours I'm sure- ha!) She couldn't say too much I think. So....we will see!!!

okay, so i just got home from work... and tuesday nights in my neighborhood is ladies' night... lol. the clubhouse has glasses of wine for 50% off- $2.50/glass! :) needless to say, i'm primed and ready to meet the girls up there!! hahaha! i'm trying to brace myself for what is most likely: that we (my family) did not get chosen for this show. i bet all your friends have been telling you the same things mine have: "be optimistic!", "think positive!" etc... lol. easy for THEM to say, hahaha... anyway, trying to brace myself for a phone call with bad news. i'd rather be surprised and thrilled than disappointed and let down, you know? argh! what about you ladies? how are you coping? will you apply for this show again, do you think? please let me know if either of you are chosen- i'd love to feel a connection with the family who ultimately takes the trip! :) okay, enough babble... hugs and best wishes!

I feel like I have gotten too many ducks in order in case we are chosen that I probably jinxed us!
I will be disappointed, of course, if we are not chosen. In the big picture, I try to believe if it's meant to be it will happen and if not, it's just wasn't. Not too much we can do about it.
I would definitely go for it again. It has been a fun process for our family.
I guess the hardest part about not being chosen would be telling the kids. But there are much bigger disappointments in life, that's for sure!
